Governance

In terms of legislation and Bonitas Medical Fund's Charter, the Chairman, Principal Officer and the Board of Trustees are required to always act in the best interests of Bonitas' members and to adhere to the highest standards of financial management and corporate governance.
Currently the responsibility for the governance of Bonitas vests in the Curator (Joseph Maluleke) who has been appointed by the court to take over control of the scheme for a 90-day period with effect 27th May 2011. Joseph Maluleke as appointed, is required to report to the Council for Medical Schemes until a new Board of Trustees has been appointed by the members pending the outcome of the recent election of trustees by the members.

This is a positive development that has put to an end the speculation regarding the future of the scheme.

Bonitas' Key Indicators and it's achievement of an A+ Global Credit Rating (GCR article dated Aug 2011) underline that the fund is in a strong financial position and that member's benefits are in safe hands.

Attention is drawn to 'Scheme Rules and Amendments' for the rules that apply to the Bonitas Medical Fund, above, with amendments as approved by the Council of Medical Schemes. A copy of the signed and approved version by the Council for Medical Schemes is available for inspection at the Scheme's offices.
